In Songbai Village, Xiangyindu Subdistrict, Yongxing County, there are neatly-stacked houses, sparkling rivers, lush vegetation and clean streets.

In 2018, Li Quan was voted to be the head of the Village Council of Maoyetou. The first thing he did after he took office was to make new village regulations. After communication with the villagers, Li Quan and his colleagues made the existing regulations for the village, which was reported to the two committees of the village.

The regulations are largely related to environmental protection.

For example, villagers are required to clean the areas around their houses, dust trash in the trash bins, farm poultry in captivity, have children defecate in toilets, and not to stack things haphazardly.

At first, few villagers were willing to follow the rules. For this reason, Li Quan and his colleagues visited the villagers and persuaded them. Gradually understanding the significance of these regulations, an increasing number of villagers have taken part in the activities.

Thanks to the concerted efforts made by more than 200 villagers, Maoyetou roads have been expanded by over 700 meters. More than 3,000 square meters of lawns have been mowed. Ten toilets without a flushing system and six lumber rooms have been demolished. A 1,000-meter-long canal has been unclogged.

Now that the dirty, haphazard and horrible conditions have gone, brand-new white fences, gym equipment, grass, and flowers are pleasant to the eyes.

As the living conditions improve, villagers now enjoy a wide variety of cultural activities.

“The festivals in the village are very lively. There are dragon and lion dances during the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival”, Li Quan said.

He thought that the position endowed him with a lot of responsibilities, pushing him to work much harder with the villagers to build Maoyetou into a harmonious, prosperous, and civilized land.
